What to do in Baja

Between natural wonders, sports activities, cultural sites, and more, there are over 50 types of adventures in Baja California Sur. Below, we list only the ones you should not miss at all!

THE DEVIL MOBULA MIGRATION

During the months of May and June, every year, tens of thousands of mobula rays visit the shores of the Sea of Cortez on the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. In this incredible experience, you will get to witness, in person, large congregations of these beautiful animals which conforms one of the most incredible natural spectacles on our planet. The congregations here are one of the largest in the world. It is an event so impressive that it has been featured on BBC’s Blue Planet and numerous National Geographic documentaries.

Imagine diving into a school of thousands of these Mobula Rays as they move through the ocean and witness their acrobatics as they jump out of the water by the hundreds. Watch as they glide effortlessly through the water in unison just a few feet away.

This is an annual migration and there is nothing like it on earth.

WHALE WATCHING

One of the most incredible activities in Baja! The peninsula is home to 3 natural sanctuaries that birth and breed grey whales in Mexico- Bahia de Guerrero Negro, Laguna de San Ignacio and Bahia Magdalena. These sanctuaries receive more than 200 species each season that travel year-round to Alaska and back. We can proudly say, they are all Mexican mammals!!

Our team of marine biologists participate every year to count, study and monitor the Gray Whales migration to Bahia Almejas. All part of a research project that involves specialists from Mexico and USA. So during your visit with ARRE you will learn everything there is to know in 2 days time. Plus we will take you to the neighbor beaches on the Sea of Cortez that are convenient now that we are higher north in the peninsula, there you will relax and enjoy breathtaking settings while we snorkel and paddle board the calm sea.

You will eat and drink the best food and beverages as we cruise along the Baja.

THE SARDINE RUN

A wild and active adventure that is designed for adventurers with good snorkeling skills. One should be in good physical condition with a heart of steel for strong experiences. Yes! You will not believe it.

Piloted by Miguel, an expert captain with certified credentials, with the eye of an eagle, he can detect flocks of birds diving into sardines miles away in open waters. Once he arrives at a dynamic gathering of Marlins, Sea Lions, Mahi-Mahi, Dolphins, seagulls, and many more, he will let you know when to jump gently into the ocean.

You will experience the adrenaline rush that predator fish live every day in their search for food. In real life, a bank of sardines disappears through the appetite of some of the most charismatic species in the sea. Of course, thanks to our deep respect for the environment, we keep a safe distance not to get entangled with the activity, nor to bother the different animals there. The depredation event is more active during the months of November, December, and January.

You will need 5 days to experience the full marine adventure, camping sites in remote areas, and dinners with lobster produced in Baja. Enjoy this stunning experience and reserve now for this unforgettable moment in your life. We also complement the trip by visiting the Sea of Cortés afterwards to relax and enjoy remote spots of Baja.

Filmed by the BBC and Nat Geo for its extraordinary living experience. Do it for yourself and see!
